When you’ve had a busy day out the last thing you want to do is come home to a cluttered kitchen that makes you feel stressed and unorganised. Not being able to find things that you need can become a nightmare and make cooking seem like a much longer, harder task than it needs to be! If you’re experiencing these problems, then it’s time to de-clutter your kitchen and make your life instantly easier and more enjoyable when it comes to the kitchen.
Start by keeping your countertops clear. It’s so easy to let clutter build up over a period of time, especially on your kitchen countertops, but this often makes your kitchen look messier than it is and therefore creates a cluttered, unorganised feel. Your countertop shouldn’t be the place where unopened mail, magazines and leaflets build up, it’s a place for meal prep! Another likely scenario is that your dishes build up on your countertop when waiting to be washed, which again creates a really unorganised look. By simply placing them in the sink or washing them you’ll have clear worktops as well as a clutter-free space.
Use the Cabinets
Your kitchen cabinets are there for a reason, and that reason is to store things away neatly and safely. By using your kitchen cupboards properly you’ll notice a huge difference. It’s not, however, the same thing if you find your kitchen cupboard doors won’t close, as this will also add to the cluttered look. Having items behind closed doors will instantly make your kitchen look and feel tidy, and fresh, which is what you want to achieve. Whilst open shelving works really well for some, those with the tendency to let clutter build up may not want to use these, as you often find you allow things to pile up on the shelving and you’re back to where you started, at least you can’t see what’s going on behind closed doors!
Put Things Away
It’s so easy to take something from the cupboard and leave it on the side when you’ve finished with it. You often find that when somethings been washed it can sit on the draining board for a few days before going back to its dedicated space. By putting things away as soon as you’ve finished using them, you’ll notice a lift in the atmosphere and you’ll feel much more organised and positive too. If your cupboards are neat and tidy, then you’ll find it much easier to tidy things away when you’ve finished with them.
Create a Routine
When you create a routine for the kitchen it becomes so much easier to keep on top of clutter. Whether you decide to set days for cleaning, dusting and so on or you simply decide to work your way around the kitchen each morning or evening, making sure everything is in its place and clean, you’ll find yourself falling into a routine that helps keep things ship shape and looking good. It’s easier to keep control of clutter when you are constantly checking to make sure everything is where it should be and nothing has been left out or ignored.
If you follow the rule that you should always leave your kitchen tidier than you left it, there’s no chance you’ll have to worry about coming home from work to a cluttered kitchen. It’s so easy to leave things for the next day and sometimes that’s better, but making sure you keep on top of your clutter and kitchen’s cleanliness will ensure you live a happy, organised and smooth flowing lifestyle!
